Kishore Kumar and S. D. Burman: A Melodious Partnership The quarter century of partnership between Kishore Kumar and S. D. Burman was a unique phenomenon in the world of Hindi film music. Lasting from 1950 to 1975 this partnership was unique in many respects: it brought departure from the strong musical influence of K. L. Saigal, played a central role in Dev Anand's career, and saw the rise of Rajesh Khanna and then Amitabh Bachchan. When Burman left the scene 1975, Kishore was the undisputed king of Hindi music, a position he securely held till his last days.

Legendary Hindi Film Music Director
S D Burman was born in Comilla, Bengal (now in Bangladesh) in British India. He was born in the royal family of Tripura, and began his training in classical music under his father, sitarist and Dhrupad singer Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman. He later continued his training first under KC Dey,and then Bhismadev Chattopadhaya and Badal Khan. He also acknowledges Ustad Allauddin Khan as one of his gurus. His early work for radio was based on East Bengali and North-Eastern folk-music. In the early 1930s he made a reputation for himself as a singer of folk and light classical music. (Consequently his film compositions were often influenced by his huge repertory of folk-tunes from the Bengali, Bhatiali, Sari and Dhamail traditions of the North-East India). for more information click here

Anju and Arti gives us a 101 on Sufi Music/ Poets/ Stalwarts ...
Qawwali (Urdu/ Hindi:) is the devotional music of the Sufis of the Indian sub-continent. Qawwali is a vibrant musical tradition that stretches back more than 700 years. Originally performed mainly at Sufi shrines throughout what is now India and Pakistan, it has also gained mainstream popularity. Qawwali music received international exposure through the work of the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan of Pakistan, who was picked up by the Real World label and also collaborated with many non-Sufi musicians in crossover efforts. for more information click here
